How to Get from Kutaisi Airport to the City Centre: 3 Best Methods

You’re arriving into Kutaisi Airport, no doubt with a flight at an obscenely antisocial hour, and all you want is a smooth entry into Georgia with a smooth journey from Kutaisi airport to the city centre without being ripped off?
Why there are SO many flights arriving in overnight, who knows!
But we’ve got you covered.
(And we’ve got you covered if you managed to bag yourself a day time flight too – kudos to you!)
There are three methods that we have tried out ourselves and would recommend: affordable and with no faff (our two favourite things).
So what is the best way to get from Kutaisi airport to the city centre?

1. Airport Shuttle Bus
Kutaisi’s airport shuttle bus will get you to the city centre in about 40 minutes. It is painted white and has ‘Kutaisi International Airport’ written on its side in English, and it leaves every couple of hours on the odd-numbered hours from just outside of the terminal doors. In Kutaisi city, it stops right in the centre around here, close to the tourist information centre and one of our favourite cafes that happens to serve great hash browns and Imeretian khachapuri – Mini Art Café.

Tickets cost 5 GEL which you pay by card on board. The driver will come round with a card machine and get everyone to tap and pay before the bus leaves the airport. Just your regular bank card will work fine. To get back to the airport, head back to the bus stop and do the same route in reverse. The same rules apply on pricing and timings but there is a rogue bus that leaves at 08:00 and no bus at 09:00 (I guess to service a specific flight out of Kutaisi), so just bear that in mind.

2. Bolt Taxi App
If you’re travelling to Georgia, Bolt is THE app that you’ll definitely need (and Maxim is good in Kutaisi too). The taxi app is available in most major cities in the country and will help you get around easily and affordably without having to barter prices down or pay in cash.
I’d recommend downloading the app before you travel and setting it all up so that when you do arrive into Georgia, you can just request a driver.
It’s a pretty user-friendly app, similar to Uber. Just add your destination and current location, and off you go!
No bartering, no scams, no cash payment, no confusion because of language barriers.
To get back to the airport, you can also schedule a driver in advance through the Bolt app.

3. GoTrip Transfer
GoTrip is an affordable private driver service (especially if you’re travelling in a group of two or more people). The website puts you in touch with local drivers and confirms a fixed fare for your journey. Head to GoTrip.ge, add your route from Kutaisi Airport to Kutaisi, select the date, and then you will see all available drivers. Select your driver based on the car, the number of passengers, luggage space, and their reviews.
Savvy Traveller Pro Tips 🇬🇪
After exploring Georgia for nine months, these are our favourite booking tools that we couldn’t travel without!
Airport Facilities
The airport has several ATMs, a currency exchange, coffee shops, car hire desks, and an information desk if you need any help with your onward transport.
The airport has free wifi. You’ll just have to click through a couple of pages, and you’re on; it’s pretty straight forward.
There is also a Georgian Railways desk because Kutaisi Train Station is right next to the airport, and this connects Kutaisi to Batumi as well as Tbilisi. And the best part is that there is a free shuttle (marshrutka/minivan) that will take you there. The journey lasts five minutes max. and they just run when there are people who want to get there. So, let them know at this stand, and they’ll arrange the drop-off free of charge.

Where To Stay In Kutaisi
Nana’s Home – (£)
We stayed in Nana’s Home twice. It’s a lovely guesthouse close to the Colchis fountain roundabout but tucked down a quiet side road. The rooms are clean and there are plenty of little nooks, balconies and communal areas to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening/morning coffee.
